Who is Dominique Bouchait?
Dominique Bouchait is one of France's great master cheesemakers. He has been awarded the title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France - MOF”.
The son of shopkeepers, Dominique grew up surrounded by cheese. His mother taught him how to sell, while his father showed him the link between origin and taste.
In the family store, Dominique's parents sold cheeses, pâtés and more, serving as a grocery store.
When he took over the store at the age of 20, the chef decided to focus on cheeses - selling them at street markets and taking them around the region where he was born, Montréjeau. There, he also created the “The Fromagers of Mont Royal” - a cheese restaurant.
His business has expanded and today he is recognized for bringing his knowledge to the region where he was born and employing the locals, whom he trains himself. He also passes on his knowledge at cooking schools, where he is regularly invited to talk about the cheese-making process.
Dominique's reputation has earned her the job of delivering cheese to the Elysée Palace, the official residence of the President of the French Republic.
In 2011, Dominique was awarded the title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France - MOF”, which honors the country's best artisans.
And in 2024, he will be the president of the “Best Cheese Maker in Brazil” competition.
